KrazyGirl Project Foundation Raises More Than $5K At First Benefit to Bust Mental Health Stigma
WANAQUE, NJ, October 27, 2021 —The KrazyGirl Project (KG) raised more than $5K to support efforts to bust mental health stigma with wellness tools and education at its first Foundation Benefit held at Tree Tavern Wine Bar in Wanaque, New Jersey, on Sunday, October 17th, 2021.
More than 60 guests tasted 35 wines available for purchase, with a dollar from each bottle donated to the foundation. Attendees also bid on 28 silent auction baskets donated by project supporters, including photography by KG Board Member Melissa Griegel of Melissa Griegel Photo and a bountiful Thankful Basket from Kate Kennedy- Katie Lynn Interiors, both of Ringwood. The highest-earning auction item was a 1977 Taylor Fladgate Port that fetched $750.
Winners of a “mental health trivia” competition designed to raise awareness about the heavy toll mental health challenges take on individuals, families, and society earned KG mugs, which remind them to do a mental health check-in with their morning coffee.
Open mic musical performances facilitated by KG’s Musical Director Bruce VanHoven included passionate renditions by KG Co- Founder Courtney Ober, Steve Ward, Marta Rodriquez and Christine Bochicchio that celebrated life, love, and wellbeing.
“We are thrilled by the enthusiasm and interest in our project, and we greatly appreciate the generosity and support for our first fundraiser,” says KrazyGirl Co-founder Marci Ober, LMFT, a licensed marriage and family therapist located in Wanaque. “We can’t thank all of our supporters, guests and donors enough!”
KG supporters include members of its thriving KrazyGirl and Guy Survival Group Facebook community, which provides a safe forum for more than 3,600 people from all 50 states and 65 countries to share their struggles along with messages of positivity and empathy that fit with the project’s mission “to bust mental health stigma, and provide wellness education and tools free of charge”.
Mother and daughter team, Marci and Courtney Ober, also collaborated on the “KrazyGirl Parent Survival Guide: Helping your child of any age thrive with mental health challenges,” which will be released by Koehler Books in February 2022, with all proceeds benefitting the nonprofit.
